Our Story

More than a dance team

Tar Heel Raas is a family. Get ready to feel the THRill!

Tar Heel Raas was founded with a mission to spread our passion for traditional West Indian dance. We love to perform, from competitions around the nation to local events in the heart of Chapel Hill.

We're all-inclusive and no experience is required. Whether you've been doing Garba your whole life or you're picking up the dandiya sticks for the first time, there's a place for you here.
